The Premier League is only just getting started, and week two already has some mouth-watering fixtures! Liverpool are looking sharp as they defend their crown, Arsenal are desperate to show they’re ready for a real title push, and Pep’s City side are trying to prove they’re still in the conversation. Add in Newcastle’s ambition, Everton’s struggles, and promoted clubs like Sunderland and Leeds fighting to survive — and we’ve got a cracking weekend ahead.
You might want to see how my Week 1 prediction fared.
Let’s go!
Saturday, 23rd August
Manchester City vs Aston Villa
City at the Etihad is always a tough assignment. Pep’s men were a bit shaky last week, but with Rodri and Foden pulling the strings, they’ll fancy their chances. Villa under Emery are organized and dangerous on the break, especially with Watkins up top. I still think City edge this, but not without a fight.
Prediction: Manchester City 2-1 Aston Villa or Home Win
Newcastle vs Brighton
This should be fun. Newcastle’s intensity at St. James’ Park makes them a nightmare to play against, while Brighton love to dominate possession. Fabian Hurzeler’s side will create chances, but I just can’t see them keeping Isak and Gordon quiet for 90 minutes.
Prediction: Newcastle 2-1 Brighton or GG (Both Teams to Score)
Fulham vs Nottingham Forest
Fulham haven’t exactly convinced me this season, and Forest look hungry. With Gibbs-White pulling strings and Awoniyi in attack, Forest could surprise a lot of teams this year. Fulham will make it scrappy at the Cottage, but Forest nick this.
Prediction: Fulham 0-1 Nottingham Forest or Under 2.5
West Ham vs Chelsea
London derbies are always unpredictable, but Chelsea are showing signs of life under Maresca. Joao Pedro and Nkunku could be too much for a West Ham side still struggling to find rhythm after a quiet summer window.
Prediction: West Ham 1-2 Chelsea or Away Win
Burnley vs Sunderland
Burnley know survival is the priority, but Turf Moor hasn’t been the fortress it once was. Sunderland, buzzing from their return to the big time, have the energy and crowd behind them. I’ll call this even.
Prediction: Burnley 1-1 Sunderland or Draw
Sunday, 24th August
Liverpool vs Tottenham
What a clash at Anfield! Liverpool under Arne Slot are flying, with Wirtz and Diaz dazzling in attack. Spurs have improved under Thomas Frank, and Kudus is a handful, but coming to Anfield this early in the season? Tough ask.
Prediction: Liverpool 3-1 Tottenham or Over 2.5 Goals
Crystal Palace vs Wolves
Palace have looked fearless lately, and after big wins in the cups last season, confidence is sky-high. Wolves are organized but lack firepower compared to Palace’s attackers like Olise and Eze. Selhurst Park crowd tips this one.
Prediction: Crystal Palace 2-0 Wolves or Home Win
Everton vs Arsenal
Everton are in trouble. They’re still adjusting to life in their new stadium and haven’t found rhythm. Arsenal, on the other hand, are serious contenders. Gyokeres and Odegaard look ready to rip defences apart. Sorry Toffees fans, but this looks one-sided.
Prediction: Everton 0-3 Arsenal or Away Handicap (-1)
Monday, 25th August
Leeds United vs Brentford
Elland Road will be bouncing again. Leeds fans waited years for nights like this, and the players look fired up. Brentford are awkward opponents and can frustrate anyone, but I’ll go with Leeds to grind out another home win.
Prediction: Leeds United 2-1 Brentford or GG
Tuesday, 26th August
Manchester United vs Bournemouth
United at Old Trafford are under pressure after last season’s disaster. Amorim has made them tougher, and the crowd will demand a result. Bournemouth are stubborn but lack the quality to keep United quiet if Hojlund and Garnacho click.
Prediction: Manchester United 2-0 Bournemouth or Home Win
These are just predictions, of course — and the beauty of the Premier League is that it always surprises us. I expect a few shock results, but on paper, these feel like the most likely outcomes for week two.
