At the beginning of the 2025/26 Premier League season, I was one of those Liverpool fans walking around with my chest out. Five games in, we had five wins — a perfect start. The team looked sharp, confident, and full of energy. Arne Slot seemed to have everything under control, and I was already predicting a Liverpool title triumph. I said it proudly. I said it publicly. And now, looking back, I can admit it: I was so, so wrong.

From Flying High to Crashing Hard… Sad
After those first five matches, Liverpool were top of the table with one of the best starts we’ve seen in years. The intensity, the pressing, the fluid attack — everything pointed toward a strong title push. But then came the collapse.
In the last several weeks, the team has fallen into one of the worst slumps in recent memory. Liverpool have lost six of their last seven league games. The goals have dried up, the defence has become shaky, and the confidence that once filled the squad has evaporated. Matches that we should at least compete in have turned into heavy, deflating defeats.
The losses at Anfield — including the painful 3–0 defeat to Nottingham Forest — were especially heartbreaking. Liverpool looked lost in the second half, unable to match Forest’s intensity. Then came the heavy defeat to Manchester City, another sign that we’re far from the level of genuine title challengers.
What makes it hurt even more is the contrast: from winning the first five games to barely stitching together good spells of football now. The fall hasn’t just been steep; it has been shocking.
Was I Too Hopeful? Maybe. But I Wasn’t Alone
I’m not the only one who believed Liverpool were heading for a special season. Many fans felt the same. We trusted the early performances, the new direction under Slot, and the hunger shown by the squad.
But football is unpredictable. Momentum is fragile. And right now, everything that made Liverpool look strong at the start has disappeared. The players look tired, disconnected, and uncertain — almost like a completely different team from the one that kicked off the season.
Some analysts even say this is one of the worst runs the club has had in decades. And honestly, watching the performances, it’s hard to argue.
Doubting Arne Slot — A Feeling Many Fans Understand
I have to admit something I never thought I’d say so early in the season: I’m starting to doubt Arne Slot.
It’s not that he suddenly became a bad coach. It’s the confusion around the team’s identity. The tactics look inconsistent. Players seem unsure of their roles. The defence, once a foundation of our success, now feels vulnerable. And Slot’s post-match comments show even he is struggling to understand the magnitude of the collapse.
Fans are asking questions. Some think he will eventually figure it out. Others fear his approach isn’t suited for a league this demanding. Either way, the doubts are real. And for the first time since he arrived, many supporters — including me — are genuinely worried about the direction of the team.
From Title Dreams to a Fight for Champions League Qualification
My prediction of Liverpool winning the Premier League now feels almost embarrassing. The difference between the team I thought we had and the team we’re watching now is massive.
At this point, I’m not thinking about the title anymore. I’m not even thinking about finishing second. All I want — and all I think is realistic — is for Liverpool to turn things around quickly enough to secure a Champions League spot.
Slot needs to find solutions fast. The players need to regain their discipline and spark. And the fans need something — anything — to believe in again.
Because right now, all that early-season confidence feels like a distant memory. And I can honestly say: I was so, so wrong.
