Should Liverpool Sign Isak? (My Opinion)

As a Liverpool fan, I’ve been following the transfer rumours closely, and the talk about Alexander Isak possibly joining us has sparked mixed feelings. While there’s no doubt Isak is a quality striker — tall, quick, technically gifted, and clinical in front of goal — I’m not convinced this is a move we need right now.

Why? Well, we just splashed a staggering £95 million on Hugo Ekitike from Frankfurt. That’s a massive investment in a player who’s expected to lead the line and develop into one of the Premier League’s top forwards. If we now turn around and bring in Isak, it raises an important question: who sits on the bench, and who starts regularly?

Football is a squad game, yes, but strikers thrive on rhythm and confidence, and constantly rotating two big-money centre-forwards can easily upset that balance. Ekitike needs time and trust to adapt, settle in, and prove his worth. If Isak arrives, one of them is bound to become frustrated, and I’m not sure that’s the kind of internal competition we need right now.

For me, the bigger priority is not another striker, but a winger who can ease the workload on Cody Gakpo. With Luis Díaz leaving for Bayern Munich, we’ve lost a dynamic, direct wide threat who could beat defenders and create chances from the flank. Replacing that type of player won’t be easy — Díaz brought energy, flair, and unpredictability to our attack — but that’s where our recruitment focus should be.

Gakpo has been doing a solid job, but without proper rotation and support, fatigue and dip in form are real risks over the course of a long season. Signing a top-class winger — even if not on Díaz’s exact level — would give us more balance and attacking flexibility. It would also help stretch defences, open spaces for our forwards, and give Klopp more tactical options.

So, while Isak is an exciting talent who could thrive in our system, the timing just feels wrong. With Ekitike on board, our striker position is already well-stocked. Strengthening the wings makes far more sense if we want to stay competitive on all fronts.

Sometimes in football, the smartest signing is not about grabbing the biggest name available, but filling the gaps your squad actually has. And right now, our gap is out wide — not through the middle.

Here’s my prediction for the 2025/2026 EPL season on who wins the league.
